Des is a well-known member of the Holywood Players and has been involved with a number of award-winning productions.
He was chiefly responsible for the set design of Da, Amadeus, Charing Cross Road and The Cherry Orchard.
His festival acting roles include The Duke of Norfolk (A Man for All Seasons) and Garret Fitzmaurice (Give Me Your Answer Do).
Des appeared with the Clarence Players as Mich in A Streetcar Named Desire, for which he won the Best Supporting Actor award at the Ulster Drama finals.
