Gerry McBrien
Gerry's
roles with local companies are too numerous to catalogue here. They include
such standards as Billy Bigelow (Carousel), Curly
(Oklahoma!), the Red Shadow (Desert
Song), Eisenstein (Die Fledermaus), and Emile
(South Pacific).
Gerry has demonstrated his versatility by also playing lead roles in Gilbert and Sullivan: Marco (The Gondoliers) and Strephon (Iolanthe).
Gerry won Best Actor and Best Male Voice at the 1996 Northern Ireland Festival of Light Opera. He took a break from the musical scene in 1999, but returned in 2003 to play Mr. Bumble in Oliver! for Banbridge Musical Society.
Gerry joined New Lyric in 2003 to play Doolittle in My Fair Lady, a role for which he received a nomination for Best Comedian in the AIMS awards.
The following year, he played Nicely-Nicely in Guys and Dolls, and in 2005 he played Sam Silver in the Northern Ireland premiere of Copacabana.
