Michelle Baird
Michelle
has been an active member of New Lyric since 2000 and has played a number
of lead roles including Anna (The
Merry Widow), Laurey (Oklahoma!) and Mabel (The
Pirates of Penzance) winning rave reviews from audiences and the
media.
Passionate about music since childhood, Michelle received professional training in voice, piano and dance. She also took time out of her English/Media degree course to study opera at the Ulster College of Music.
An accomplished singer, she has graced the stages of many of NI's prestigious venues as well as performing live at Belfast’s esteemed ‘Opera in the Gardens’ event. A member of the acclaimed ‘Leading Ladies’ quartet, Michelle has performed with talents such as Peter Corry, Festival Brass and Broadway/West End stars Joanna Ampil and Jeff Leyton.
Michelle's three octave vocal range covers a broad style of music from opera to swing/jazz, musical theatre and pop and has earned her many awards over the years including the Edinburgh International Musical Festival’s prize for ‘Outstanding Vocal Ability’ and most notably, the Irish Musical Societies’ (AIMS) award for ‘Best Female Singer’ which she has won twice (2001, 2008).
