William Cairns
Throughout his many years in the music business, Billy has been musical director/conductor
for the full range of Gilbert & Sullivan operettas, Rodgers & Hammerstein
and Lerner & Loewe musicals, and light operas Die Fledermaus,
Gypsy Baron and The Merry Widow,
to name just a few.
Billy has been nominated for and won the Nl Festival of Light Opera on nine occasions, and the Waterford Festival of Light Opera three times. He has also been nominated for an AIMS award on several occasions, and has won trophies for Musical Director (twice) and Chorus-master (four times).
Billy has also worked regularly as accompanist/arranger for local and cross-channel artists and for the past many years has devised and directed Cavalcade of Song for AIMS (Northern Region) as part of the Belfast Festival at Queen's.
He has formed his own choral group "Musicale" which is very popular in Northern Ireland, singing church music, musicals, opera, etc.
His great love for and long association with church music has given him many opportunities to broadcast nationally for BBC/UTV/ITV. Billy also acts as examiner for several examining boards, and is in demand as adjudicator at music festivals in Nl and GB.
